Air Fryer Repair Basics
Air fryers are relatively simple appliances. Most issues stem from the heating element, fan, or thermal safety devices.
Not Heating
Check that the basket is properly seated and the unit is closed. The heating element may have failed—inspect it for visible damage. The thermal fuse can blow if the unit overheats; it must be replaced. Ensure the fan spins when you turn it on—without airflow, the element will overheat and shut off.
Fan Not Spinning
The fan motor may have failed. Open the unit (unplug first) and check the fan connection. The motor is usually behind the heating element. Replace the fan motor if it does not run. A jammed fan can also cause the motor to burn out.
Excess Smoke
Some smoke during first use or with fatty foods is normal. Excess smoke means oil buildup. Clean the basket, tray, and interior with soap and water. Check the heating element for burnt residue. Run the unit empty for a few minutes to burn off any remaining oil.
Basket Coating Peeling
Non-stick coating can wear over time. Replace the basket if the coating is flaking—ingesting it is not recommended. Use wooden or silicone utensils to extend the life of the coating.
