Microwaves Repair

Microwave oven troubleshooting guides. Detailed repair guides for all brands and models.

Microwave repair requires extreme caution—the capacitor holds lethal voltage even when unplugged. Wait 24 hours or discharge it before opening. "Runs but doesn't heat" usually means a failed magnetron. Turntable motors, door switches, and high-voltage diodes are common replacements. Our guides cover Samsung, LG, Panasonic, GE, and more. Never operate a microwave with the door open or the interlock bypassed. The waveguide cover (metal plate inside) must be intact to prevent arcing. When in doubt, replace the unit—microwaves are inexpensive.

Frequently Asked Questions

My microwave runs but doesn't heat food - what's wrong?

This usually indicates a failed magnetron (the component that generates microwaves). The magnetron can be tested with a multimeter. Also check the high-voltage diode and capacitor. Magnetron replacement requires discharging the capacitor first - follow safety procedures.

The turntable won't spin - how do I fix it?

The turntable motor is usually under the floor of the microwave. Check that the turntable is properly seated on the drive hub. If the motor runs but the plate doesn't spin, the drive coupling may be broken. Replace the turntable motor assembly.

The microwave door won't latch or stay closed - what should I check?

Door switches (usually 2-3) ensure the microwave only runs when the door is closed. A faulty switch can prevent operation or cause it to run with the door open. Test switches for continuity and replace any that fail.

My microwave sparks inside - is it dangerous?

Sparks usually indicate metal in the cavity, a damaged waveguide cover (metal plate on the side), or food debris. Remove any metal. Replace the waveguide cover if damaged. Clean the interior thoroughly.
